BIOSERICA® is a special fiber for use in textile. It is eco-friendly and works well together with all premium natural and green fibers. It mixes easily with silk, merino wool, hemp, cotton, modal, tencel, and bamboo rayon, and unlocks immense possibilities for design and application without sacrificing aesthetics or performance. Its secret begins with a microscopic cell which owes its growth to propagation by a fermentation process providing the necessary nutrients. Glucose derived from non-GMO corn starch is delivered to a specially equipped biochemical plant and injected into fermentation tank after being turned into liquid solution. The cells in the tank are carefully nurtured and multiplied within a controlled period of time during which plentiful PHBV raw material are produced by a series of bio-chemical reaction inside the cells. The principal composition of BIOSERICA® is PHBV (polyhydroxy-butyrate-co-valerate, CAS No.80181-31-3), a member of the polyhydroxy alkanoates (PHA’s) family. It is an eco-friendly natural co-polymer and produced from a non-GMO natural microscopic cell (Ralstonia eutropha, NCIMB11599 H16). Upon maturity, it is extracted by water phase separation method and turned into bio-based degradable plastics suitable for charcoal film in water treatment and with further processing, becomes bio-based textile fiber for knitted, woven or non-woven fabrics
We name this bio-based textile fiber “BIOSERICA®“ as it bears a lot resemblance to the popularly known mulberry silk. Silk is cultured from silkworms fed on mulberry leaves and BIOSERICA® is extracted from cells nurtured by glucose. The finished fabric from silk or BIOSERICA® is similar in its touch or appearance.
BIOSERICA® is a low carbon consumption green textile material exhibiting surprisingly superior anti-bacterial performance. Polymerization of fatty acid chain exists in BIOSERICA® may break down the cell wall and membrane of a number of disease inducible bacteria that bring about their eventual termination by hindering the metabolism process of such cells. Through years of studies and examinations by universities and laboratories, the anti-bacterial performance of BIOSERICA® is proven to be effective and long lasting, completely safe for use on the human body.
After a decade or more research and practice, BIOSERICA® is now successfully cultivated by a sustainable model of production which can be reproduced on commercially viable scale. With wider and increasing application of BIOSERICA®, it will contribute positively to improving our environment in eliminating pollution, reducing waste or surplus and provide a trustworthy green alternative to the textile industry.
